I love when an instructor can find that balance of education and adventure. Chris does this. You're actually building a basic game and seeing it come to life.
With any endeavor, it helps to have a coach, and Chris is a great person to fill this need. I've learned more in the past few months working with Chris DeLeon's book and one-on-one training than I have in the last 5 years of trying to do it for myself. His years of experience with game development and training make him invaluable for anyone at any level. I'm gaining the skills I need to transform the visions for my games into reality.
Making games was always something I'd been interested in but as an engineering student I hadn't done much to pursue it. I was discouraged by the competitiveness of the industry, afraid of pulling myself away from my engineering studies, and I had no idea where to start. Chris DeLeon's continued emphasis on actually finishing games not only gave me tangible proof of my improvement, it built my portfolio as well. While I was searching for jobs, my portfolio proved invaluable in every single one of my interviews, even outside of the game industry. It demonstrated my ability to work in teams to realize a concept from start to finish. In fact, I was told in multiple interviews that just having finished projects in my free time put me far ahead of much of my competition and showed employers that I was a serious candidate. After graduation I began work as a Gameplay Programmer at Hi-Rez Studios and I have total confidence that I would not have made it here without the support of Chris, the club [VGDev] he founded, and the processes he taught.
Gamkedo Club has been a great help in teaching me how to program and design video games. I got a job as a game programmer using the knowledge and information I gained.

He teaches you everything that you need to know from your own level of comfort and understanding to make your own games. It's so nice to have an experienced person to train you!
I've been solo-developing games now and then over decades and I've always dreamt of going bigger by collaborating within a team of people -- but the networking skill needed to find my way into such a team was lacking (and might always be due to a type of introvertness). Gamkedo Club feels to me like a safe island where I can enjoy working on games. New projects crop up at a comfortable pace and everything within Gamkedo Club is geared towards making it easy and non-scary to join in.
Chris DeLeon could easily be working for a AAA studio, and he has in the past. He has a high degree of programming skill, plus the patience to explain my code problems. This was a wise investment.
Experience working on a team is what I get out of Gamkedo Club as an artist, understanding programmers and what they need to complete a game. The club taught me lots of things and connected me with lots of people. I am really proud of having joined.
I've been programming for 20 years, but I'd never dedicated the time to climb the learning curve on programming video games. Chris helps get me unstuck, which allows me to avoid wasting time.
Game development seemed stressful even to figure out where to begin. Chris is getting me through it.
I've been making video games on and off for the last few years but it's always been self taught with a lot of trial and error. When I found out about Chris and Gamkedo I realized I'd have saved myself a huge amount of time and effort had he been around when I started making games. Chris has been helping me take my game development up a few notches over the last few months, building a much more complex game than I'd done before. I've achieved so much more with his guidance than I would have done on my own. Without a doubt a great deal of the project's success has been down to Chris, helping me keep everything on track as well as pushing my own skills.
I wasn't even sure what I wanted to get out of our training sessions before we started; I am generally pretty happy trying to learn stuff on my own. But as the weeks progressed I've realized that Chris's training can accelerate that process of self learning, directing it in the most efficient way and getting you to where you want to be faster and with fewer dead ends. I'm months ahead of where I'd have been otherwise and that's time I can make good use of now. That's invaluable.
Chris provides a unique service. He knows his stuff, he's been there and done that. Even if you've been making games for years I can guarantee there's a lot of stuff he can teach you, or at the very least show you what it is you didn't realize you didn't know before! His passion and professionalism will give you the confidence you need to take your game development to the next level, whatever level you're at now. I'm a better game developer now because of Gamkedo.
I like that the group isn't tied to the physical location, making it possible to be part of a development group from anywhere. Gamkedo Club has helped to increase my skill level in using game production technologies, and provided good experience doing team projects.
This whole experience has been a blast. I can't tell you how great it's been to have collaborators and mentorship. Gamkedo Club has been such an amazing boost in my learning. It's unreal.

I love when an instructor can find that balance of education and adventure. Chris does this quite well by teaching you basic game programming concepts, and at the same time, you're actually building a basic game and seeing it come to life. I'm excited to move onto the more advanced course (already bought it :)
